HUSZTI dental care
There are many causes of gum recession and Ron, who’s 59, thought he’d been addressing them all. His career often placed him in the public eye and he was starting to get a bit self-conscious.
The hygienists and doctors on the Huszti Dental team told the Highland resident he is grinding his teeth at night, so they fitted him for a bite guard, which he wears every night. But still the recession continued.
They suggested his brushing was too hard, and he admitted that, but couldn’t break the habit. They encouraged him to use his nondominant hand to brush and that seemed to put less pressure on the gums, but still he saw little black triangles between his teeth at the gumline. They suggested he use a soft electric toothbrush, which he finally did and it seemed to halt the recession. But the damage was done; gums cannot grow back.
As gums recede, they reveal softer parts of the tooth that are usually protected by the gums. This more porous part of the tooth is more susceptible to colder and hot temperatures and can cause discomfort. In addition, because they are more porous, they are prone to decay, even with proper (and more gentle) brushing.
Treatment can mean gum grafting, which doesn’t always work and, in some cases, cannot be used because of the state of the gums. The Huszti Dental Care team includes periodontist Mark Isler suggested Ron was a great candidate for the groundbreaking Chao Pinhole treatment.
The treatment reconfigures the gums using special tools that are inserted in the gum tissue through a hole the size of a pin. It’s suture and scalpel free, has minimal side effects and a much quicker recovery time. Ron thought it was an option worth pursuing, especially since it could be done right in the Huszti Dental Care office on Highland Road in Milford, where he has been a patient for years.
Two weeks after treatment, Ron returned and was thrilled with the results. He said he looks better, feels better about his dental health and loves his confident new smile.
